Help Me Keep the Podcast Alive and Even Make it Better!
I pay the bills with painting sales and through mentoring my Hein Atelier students. This means that I can't do this podcast forever unless I can hand the work load over to someone else. Reaching my total pledge goal will make it possible for me to hire an editor/manager. This will not only allow me to reclaim my much needed painting and teaching time but it will also help me to improve the podcast's overall production value. With an editor/manager, I can add more features, such as image and text overlays referencing artists, or paintings, that my guests mention. I can also add links in the show notes to important topics discussed. For those who don't have time to watch entire episodes, I'll be able to post shorts and reels of conversation highlights to our youtube and social media channels. Perhaps best of all, your donations will also allow me to consider your suggestions on how to improve the podcast. Every dollar donated brings us one step closer to ensuring that this enriching source or knowledge, information, inspiration and entertainment will be here week after week and year after year.
As a thank you gift, I am offering an "Undraped Artist" branded painters apron to each patron who's reaches $100 in total donations. Just send an email to me at - TheUndrapedArtist@gmail.com to claim your gift.

Where Professional Artists Bare All
What I would have done to have had the chance to pick the brain of just one of the world's greatest painters when I was learning to paint and trying to navigate the mysterious and intimidating world of art. Well, it's never too late. On this podcast brains are everywhere and you can hear (and watch) me pick them all. Don't miss an episode of inspirational, informative and and entertaining conversation with me, Jeff Hein, and the world's best.

Katie (b. 1991) grew up in central Indiana. After graduating high school, Katie decided to forgo traditional college education and move to New York City to study academic painting at the Grand Central Atelier. She has since been the recipient of many awards, including scholarships from Grand Central Atelier, Art Renewal Center, and a purchase award from the Indiana State Museum for their permanent collection.
Most notably, Katie was the recipient of the 2013-2014 Alma Schapiro Prize. The Alma Schapiro Prize sent her to the American Academy in Rome for three months to study the work of the old masters. Katie extended her stay in Italy, journeying from Rome to Florence and Naples studying antiquity and the Renaissance intensively for eight months. The months in Italy changed Katie’s life. She went to Italy to continue her studies of the figure, but after seeing the ancient Roman wall painting The Painted Garden from the Villa Liva, Katie began painting flowers.
It was a shift in her work Katie never saw coming. She feels the flowers chose her, much more than she chose them, and is gladly devoted to capturing their ephemeral beauty. Although florals are generally categorized as ‘still life’, Katie doesn’t feel that is an accurate description of her paintings. Katie’s flowers are alive, and it is the living sprit of Nature that she strives to capture in her work.
Katie lives in Southampton, NY with her husband, artist Brendan Johnston, their son Hewitt, and their dog Theo. She works full time painting flowers, and teaches workshops around the country.

Karen Offutt was born and raised in Dallas, Texas by a creative family who encouraged her to explore her artistic talent from an early age. Her father was an artist and her mother is a designer and owner of a needlepoint company. Throughout her formative years, Karen excelled in art classes and participated in several art exhibits. As a young adult she sought a more serious outlet for her talent. Not finding the ultimate education for the type of realism she sought, Karen found art related jobs to keep her motivated. Learning to paint with oils was her goal and found that opportunity Austin Fine Arts Classes where she learned a more classical approach.
From there, she attended workshops from nationally re-nowned artists and from there began to find her own path in her creative journey.
From her studio in Austin, Karen approaches her paintings with an atmospheric sensitivity combining shape, tone line, and color. The inspiration of her preferred subject matter comes ultimately from the figure. "I have always loved painting people whether in natural surroundings or in a more staged setting." “As and artist, I am very aware of my environment which invites me to be a constant observer. I see potential in everything and my emotional reaction guides me to the specific inspiration. There are different aspects to my painting, for example technical skill, creative freedom and emotional truth. My goal is to create work that guides all these elements in a direction that moves me."
